MARINA Administrator Atty. Sonia Malaluan personally conducted an inspection of passenger motorboats at Pritil Port in Binangonan, Rizal on October 10, 2025, as part of the agency’s continuing efforts to ensure safe sea travel to and from Talim Island.
The inspection aimed to confirm that all vessels operating in the area comply with the Maritime Industry Authority’s (MARINA) safety standards and are properly equipped with essential life-saving appliances.
During her rounds, Administrator Malaluan reminded boat operators and crew members of the importance of adhering to safety regulations, particularly the availability of complete and functional life jackets, fire extinguishers, and other safety equipment on board.

She also reiterated MARINA’s ongoing initiative to simplify documentary and payment processes while imposing stricter penalties on violators to promote compliance and protect passengers’ welfare.
The MARINA Chief noted areas needing improvement, such as the visibility of maximum passenger capacity signage and ensuring spacious boarding areas for commuters. Immediate corrective actions were ordered in coordination with the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Talim Island Passenger Motorboat and Patron Association (TIPMOPA), and the local government of Binangonan.

Administrator Malaluan also commended boat owners for using standard-compliant life vests, calling it a positive step toward safer sea transport.
“Ngayon ay kitang-kita natin ang kalidad ng mga life jackets na meron sa mga naturang bangka. Ito ay isang magandang hakbang tungo sa tunay na Ligtas Biyaheng Dagat,” she said.
