Iran has released the Marshall Islands–flagged product tanker Talara along with all 21 crew members after holding the vessel for five days, the ship’s technical manager confirmed.

The tanker was seized on November 14 while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most sensitive maritime corridors. Iranian authorities stated that the detention was carried out under a judicial order, alleging the vessel was transporting an unauthorized cargo. The ship was reportedly carrying about 30,000 tons of high-sulphur gasoil loaded in the United Arab Emirates and bound for Singapore.

Following the interception, the vessel was directed into Iranian waters for inspection before anchoring near Bandar Abbas. During the detention period, no formal charges were filed against the ship, its owners, or the crew, according to Columbia Shipmanagement. The company confirmed that all crew members are safe, unharmed, and in stable condition.

The Talara was released early Wednesday morning and has since resumed communication with its operators. Iran has not provided additional details regarding the basis for the seizure or the final outcome of its investigation.

The incident highlights continuing tensions in the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway through which roughly one-fifth of global oil trade flows. Regional maritime authorities and shipping companies remain cautious as vessel detentions in the area carry significant economic and security implications.
