The chair of the House Committee on Overseas Workers Affairs on Wednesday recognized the vital role played by frontline government personnel who protect and assist overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), describing them as the often-unseen force behind the country’s modern-day heroes.

Speaking at the 2025 Migrant Workers Offices (MWO) Command Conference in Pasay City, Congressman Bryan B. Revilla lauded officials and staff from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA), and partner agencies for their unwavering service to Filipinos abroad. He emphasized that their daily efforts ensure OFWs are never left to face crises alone.

Revilla said the collective work of labor attachés, welfare officers, and assistance-to-nationals personnel reflects a deep commitment to public service, noting that their presence abroad provides reassurance to migrant workers during moments of distress. He described their mission as a calling driven by compassion rather than recognition.

The lawmaker highlighted the importance of inter-agency cooperation, stating that collaboration among government institutions has translated policies into real protection on the ground. As an example, he cited the recent approval on third and final reading of the proposed OFW Balikbayan Act in the House of Representatives, which aims to strengthen reintegration support for returning migrant workers.

He added that recent government responses to emergencies overseas, including assistance extended to Filipinos affected by a major fire incident in Hong Kong, underscored the value of a well-coordinated support network linking Philippine posts abroad with agencies at home.

In closing, Revilla urged frontline personnel to take pride in their work while also caring for their own well-being. He thanked them for embodying the spirit of bayanihan in public service and extended his holiday greetings, honoring them as a source of strength for Filipino migrant workers and their families worldwide.
