A passenger ferry operating in Greece struck a concrete jetty while arriving at the Port of Rafina, causing significant damage to the structure but leaving passengers and crew unharmed, according to local authorities.

The incident involved the Greek-flagged Ro-Ro passenger ferry Andros King, which was completing a voyage from Mykonos to Rafina on June 8. Reports indicated that the vessel collided with a concrete jetty or breakwater during a maneuver to enter the port. The impact was strong enough to severely damage the structure, with portions of the jetty reportedly split or displaced.

At the time of the incident, the ferry was carrying more than 280 passengers, around 60 crew members, and several vehicles, including trucks and motorcycles. Despite the force of the collision, no injuries were reported among those on board. Authorities also confirmed that no marine pollution or fuel spill was detected in the surrounding waters.

Initial inspections conducted by port authorities found no significant damage affecting the vessel’s seaworthiness. Following technical assessments, the ferry was cleared to continue operations and departed on its next scheduled voyage the following morning.

Weather conditions in the area reportedly included moderate northerly winds at the time of the accident. The Port Authority of Rafina has launched an investigation to determine the factors that contributed to the collision, including navigational, operational, and environmental conditions.

The incident highlights the importance of safe maneuvering procedures in confined port areas, particularly during ferry operations involving large numbers of passengers and vehicles. Authorities are expected to release further findings once the investigation is completed.
