Twenty-three Filipino seafarers from the M/V Christina B and M/V Asia returned to Manila on August 9, 2026, after their vessels were affected by drone strikes while transiting the Black Sea. The crew members arrived at Ninoy Aquino International Airport on separate flights.

Personnel from the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) assisted the returning seafarers. Upon arrival, they received airport and financial assistance, while medical personnel conducted initial health checks. Representatives of their respective manning agencies were also present.

The DMW and OWWA directed the manning agencies to arrange physical and psychological assessments, including debriefing sessions, for the affected crew members. The agencies were also instructed to provide the benefits and compensation applicable to the seafarers following their repatriation.

The DMW also reminded licensed manning agencies and their accredited principals to follow established safety measures and protocols when deploying Filipino seafarers aboard vessels operating or transiting through the Black Sea. The government continues to coordinate with relevant parties regarding the safety and welfare of Filipino crew members in affected areas.
