Ropes are essential equipment in shipboard operations, used for mooring, towing, lifting, rigging, cargo handling, and other deck activities. Different types of rope have specific properties, strengths, and limitations. Understanding the characteristics and proper applications of nylon, polyester, polypropylene, HMPE, wire rope, and Manila rope helps seafarers select the right rope for each operation and work safely onboard.

1. NYLON
A strong, flexible synthetic rope known for its excellent shock absorption, high tensile strength, and resistance to abrasion, making it ideal for mooring, towing, and general shipboard operations.

2. POLYESTER
A durable synthetic rope with low stretch, excellent UV and abrasion resistance, and strong performance in wet conditions, making it ideal for mooring, rigging, and general deck operations.

3. POLYPROPYLENE
A lightweight synthetic rope that floats on water and offers good chemical and moisture resistance, making it ideal for heaving lines, rescue operations, and general marine applications.

4. HMPE
An ultra-high-strength synthetic rope that is lightweight, low-stretch, and highly resistant to abrasion, making it ideal for mooring, towing, offshore operations, and heavy lifting.

5. WIRE ROPE
A high-strength steel rope made of twisted wire strands designed for heavy lifting, towing, cargo handling, and crane operations where maximum durability and load capacity are required.

6. MANILA
A natural fiber rope made from abaca fibers, valued for its excellent grip, flexibility, and durability, making it suitable for traditional rigging, cargo handling, and general deck work.
