CORON, PALAWAN — The burned MV June Aster remains off Coron, Palawan, following the fire that engulfed the passenger Ro-Ro vessel on September 9.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said the vessel’s manifest listed 134 people onboard, including 117 passengers and 17 crew members.

As of the latest confirmed update, 43 people had been rescued, five were confirmed dead, while 86 remained missing. Search and rescue operations continue in surrounding waters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The PCG has not issued a conclusive finding on what started the blaze.
